PROFILE OF NS POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE

 

1.         Introduction:

 

The economic development of any country is reflected through the industrial, agricultural and educational policy of the nation.  Keeping in view of this principle the union govt. as well as state govt. have embarked upon the liberalization, privatization and globalization of economy in all the three sectors. As a result the massive industrialization the policy to attract entrepreneur in setting of industries in private sector has ushered the renaissance in the industrial sector. The govt. is promoting in the multinational companies and industrial houses of the country to harness the natural resources and set up industries in core sectors like steel, Aluminum, mining etc. the requirement of technical personnel will be large in number in the coming years.

            To cope up with the requirement of technical manpower the govt. has also liberalized the educational policy, where by the self-financing colleges and technical institution are being setting up by private bodies.  The promoters have drawn up a mission to serve the industrial sector by providing qualitative technical manpower in future and to translate the mission into reality or the promoter are intending to put up an engineering college at Berhampur [Southern West Bengal] with the state of the art technology and matching facilities.

 

 

 

2.         Promoting Body

 

SWATIRTHA CHARITABLE TRUST is trust registered under the India Trust Act, 1882 (herein after referred as SCT). The Trust is formed on 2ND AUGUT 2011,   Whereas it is the desire of the Author that the primary object of the trust in the matter of education as charitable object which is by way of establishment of educational and other charitable institutions. The main objective for which the trust is formed is to advance for cause of education in general and all its functions, which pertain to professional & Technical educational course like, Degree Engineering College.

The economic progress of a country is strongly linked with the quality of education. It is therefore, necessary for our technical education to undertake periodic review of the curriculum and subject content of the technical programmes to ensure that they are up to date not outmoded or obsolete and effectively fulfill the technological requirements of the country.

During the past three decades, many steps have been taken in India to improve the quality of technical education. These include evolution of model syllabi, quality improvement programmes for teachers; encouraging interaction with industry through consultancy and continuing education programmes; and providing impetus for expanding infra-structural facilities in emerging technologies.

For economic growth and prosperity, the need is to produce highly professional and competent students. This could be achieved by imparting quality teaching to students. Towards, this some norms and standards of education need to be laid down so as to educate the students with appropriate skills suitable for a rapidly changing industrial scenario.

A scientist often solves problems to understand nature. A professional usually undertakes tasks, which need to be done in a specified period of time on a fixed budget and with limited resources. Larger the information, a professional has at the command and larger his technical and social skills, the more likely he will be able to do his job quickly and efficiently. The rapidly expanding database of technological information means that a student will have to learn only a small fraction of the total information he is expected to know. To install all the needed inputs in a short period of a degree course is impossible. The situation can be ameliorated by improving skills for accessing information, developing flexible learning skills, rejecting outmoded courses from the curriculum and by addition of the appropriate and emerging technological items.

 

 

 

3.         Background of the Consultants

 

            The Detailed Project Report is being prepared by the people who have been associated with Technical Education for last 10 years and also people having industrial exposure.

 

 

 

4.         Technical Education and Industry Scenario  Placement & Job Market

 

The Government of West Bengal has liberalized the Industrial Policy in order to attract large number of investors to setup industries in the State.  As on date West Bengal is considered to be Steel, Aluminium and Power Hub of the Country.  With the liberalization of Industrial Policy a large number of industries have been setup in the State in core sectors as well as service sectors like IT and ITES. 

With the advent of massive industrialization, the need for technical manpower increased in many fold.  To meet the demand the Government has also encouraged establishment of Self-financing Engineering Colleges in private sector.

 

Realizing the growing need of Technical Man Power in different Industrial Sector N S Polytechnic College has arranged a Mega JOB Fair – 2015 started on 2nd May 2015 and continued up to 5th May 2015. Sri Ujjal Biswas Hon’ble Minister in Charge , Department of Technical Education & Training,, Govt. of West Bengal have inaugurated the Mega Job Fair - 2015. Sri Swapan Debnath , Ho’ble MIC ,of State of WB, Sri Chandra Nath Sinha, Hon’ble MIC, Dept of Fisheries, Govt. of WB, was present in the Mega Job Fair to grace the program. Valuable presence of Sri Debu Tudu, Hon’ble Sabhadipati, Burdwan Zilla Parishad and Sri Bikash Roy Choudhury , Hon’ble Sabhadipati , Birbhum Zilla Parishad made the program a great success.

5.         Objectives of the Institution

6.         General and Technical education scenario in the country:

 

The Central & State Govt. has a long lasting programme on improving the educational standards of the masses commencing right from grass root level i.e. village level, up to the urban levels.  The state govt. encourages to set up various training centers educational institutions both in public and private sectors in the state.  The vision of the govt. is to place the country at horizons of the highly industrialized countries in the world and has formulated and adopting policies for setting up industries , vocational training centers, technical educational institutions in private sectors. 

 

 

 

7.         Status of Technical manpower:

 

As on date West Bengal has got a very meager percentage of technical manpower in comparison to the need for qualified lot.  To improve the quality in vocational training & technical education up to a desired level to cater the need of industries both in supervisor , mechanic and managerial sector which are expected to come up down in line in a period of coming two decades and need for growth of quality education through various centers and technical institutes of excellence are to setup for shortening the gap between demand and supply.

As stands now the total requirement of trained & technical manpower for the Country’s industrial need is about 4 Lakhs per year and this trend is expected to continue for the period of 5 years to come.  Whereas the number of pass outs of qualified engineers every year in the Country is about 2.5 lakhs which is less than the required input/supply in comparison to the prevailing demand.

 

 

 

8.         Academic Programs

 

CIVIL ENGINEERING

It is the oldest professional engineering that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the structures like bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. It has many sub-disciplines. Civil Engineering is the application of physical and scientific principles and it is linked to advanced understanding of Mathematics, Drawing, Applied Mechanics and Strength of Materials.

 

 

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

 

This old and broad discipline involves the application of the principle of physics for the analysis, design manufacture and maintenance of mechanical system. Mechanical Engineering is the strong concept of mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and energy. This branch ranges from space to the bottom of oceans.

 

 

 

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

 

It is the most important sector in Engineering that deals with study & application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. Generally, Electrical Engineering deals with problems associated with large-scale electrical system like generation transmission and motor control.

 

 

 

SURVEY ENGINEERING

 

Hand in hand with Civil Engineering, Survey Engineering emerged as a special discipline about 5000 years ago. The accurate three dimensional location of point over the land surface, under the land surface or under the water surface in our globe or anywhere in the universe, is very important for all concerned. With the development of modern technologies Total Survey has also taken the disciplines of Electronics and Computer Science in its fold. For 3 years diploma course, in addition to the essential Engineering and Science Subjects, special emphasis will be given to Cartography, Computer aided design and drafting, Geodesy and Astronomy, Tachometry & Cadastral Survey, Theodolite Survey, Curve and Triangulation, Topography and Hydrograph, Modern Survey, Tunnel and Mine Surveying, Photogrammetric and Remote Sensing etc.

 

 

 

9.         Central Library:

           

A central library measuring 3230 sq ft. built-up area has been constructed.  The Library functions 12.00 Hrs. per day i.e. 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM and on all days of the week .  The Library has been divided into three sections namely issue , reference and reading section .  The library is managed by a well designed software system and cataloguing procedure in reading section there is a capacity of 125 students. In library there are 855 titles of books with 4275 volumes and 30 national journals.

 

 

10.       Central Computing Facility:

 

A computer centre measuring 1077 sq ft. built-up has been constructed.  The centre is equipped with 85 number of computers with high speed internet facility . Institute is facilitated with Wi Fi facility .

 

 

 

11.       Central Workshop:

           

5 workshops a) Carpentry   b) Fitting  c)  Welding  d) Machine shop  e) Electrical shop  have been constructed having  2153 sq ft. area of each. Machines and tools have been purchased in accordance with the norms of AICTE spcified for approved Diploma Engineering Institutions.

14.       Governance and Academic Administrative Management

 

 

Philosophy of Governance:

The Trust will be the apex body to take all the decisions in the matters of growth and development of various activities to translate the objectives of the Trust into reality.  The Trust shall function on the principles of democracy.  There will be transparency in all activities and subject to public audit and scrutiny. The Governance will be carried out with service mentality without any profit bias.

 

Board of Governance :

The Trust will have a board of management which will constitute of the following:
